As an award-winning celebrity photographer, Kwaku Alston has made a career of working with beautiful people. As a humanist, he does not restrict his definition of beauty to Hollywood's narrow standards. Instead, he focuses on connecting with the spirit of the individual and bringing out their unique beauty.
Among those he has photographed is First Lady Michelle Obama, Brad Pitt, Drew Barrymore and Teri Hatcher.
In his IRIS Nights lecture, Alston will show a selection of his celebrity and personal portraits, as well as discuss symbols of beauty in our culture and how he responds to or draws influence from them. In addition, Alston, who is also a sought-after advertising photographer, will reflect on his experiences with how beauty is defined in the creative industry.
