In a career spanning nearly five decades Ansel has pushed the boundaries of magazine design and, in the process, the history of modern graphic design. She has been responsible for era-defining magazine pages and covers for numerous publications such as Harper’s Bazaar, The New York Times Magazine and Vanity Fair. Her design studio also designed campaigns for Versace, Karl Lagerfeld and Club Monaco. Ansel has received the Gold Medal for Design and the Society of Publication Design Award for Continuing Excellence in Publication Design, and was inducted into the Art Directors Hall of Fame.

Current projects include a book with Brett Ratner called Photobooth Pictures. Hall of Femmes: Ruth Ansel a book that chronicles her 50-year career has sold out and is being reprinted. In her Iris Nights lecture, Ansel will talk intimately and authoritatively about everything and everyone - including Richard Avedon, Diana Vreeland, Andy Warhol, Annie Leibovitz and Tim Walker.
