Michael “Nick” Nichols, longtime photographer for National Geographic as well as the magazine’s Editor-at-Large for photography, will discuss his latest book, Earth to Sky: Among Africa’s Elephants, A Species in Crisis.  Nichols has been working with African elephants for more than twenty years. In Earth to Sky, he tells their story through poignant images that bring us directly into their habitats and advocates for the protection of the species, whose survival is under dire threat from humankind—most immediately from the market for ivory.

Nichols will also speak about his recent work with the Serengeti Lions, published in the August 2013 issue of National Geographic magazine, as well as his work on sequoias featured as the 2012 cover story, "The World's Largest Trees" in which Nichols used innovative techniques to create an image of a 250-foot-tall, 3,200-year-old tree. This fascinating image was on display at the Photography Space as part of the Extreme Exposure exhibit.

Following his lecture, Nichols will sign copies of Earth to Sky: Among Africa's Elephants, A Species in Crisis (Aperture, September 2013).
