Abelardo Morell

Abelardo Morell’s career has spanned over 25 years. Born in Havana, Cuba, in 1948, Morell immigrated to the United States in 1962. He received an MFA from The Yale University School of Art in 1981.

His work has been collected and shown in art institutions including the Museum of Modern Art, The Whitney Museum of American Art, the Metropolitan Art Museum in New York, The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, The Victoria & Albert Museum and over seventy other museums in the United States and abroad. A retrospective of his work organized by the Art Institute of Chicago, The Getty and The High Museum in Atlanta is currently on view at The Getty.

Morell will discuss his early work and how it has influenced and informed his more recent images involving principles of optics and time in the Camera Obscura and Tent/Camera work.
