"PHOTOGRAPHIC PROSE"
Documentary Photographer Colin Finlay
Thursday, September 24, 6:30-8:00pm
IRIS Nights offers an evening with Colin Finlay, one of the foremost documentary photographers in the world. For more than 20 years, Finlay has documented the human condition with compassion, empathy and dignity. In pursuit of his passion, he has circled the globe twenty-seven times in search of that one photograph that will be a testament to the depth of human will and compassion.
Colin Finlay has been awarded the prestigious Pictures of the Year International (POYi) honor six times. His work has also been honored by other prestigious organizations such as the Lucie Foundation's International Photography Awards (IPA), New York Art Directors, Photo District News (PDN), Applied Arts, International Center for Photography, and the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. His photographs have been featured in Vanity Fair, TIME, U.S. News and World Report, American Photo, Los Angeles magazine, UNICEF and more. Finlay has published several books of his images from around the world.
To register for the lecture, please click here. We recommend that you make your reservations soon, as our lectures tend to fill up quickly. If you are unable to reserve seats through our ticketing system, don't be discouraged...10 minutes prior to the lecture we release any seats that have not been claimed by ticketholders to standby guests.
Colin Finlay will also be offering a special workshop on Saturday, September 26 from 10am to 5pm. This hands-on workshop, entitled "The Photograph and the Written Word," is designed to help participants develop their artistic voices. During the course of the day, Finlay will explain his process and photographs, along with his own narratives and how they both inform and expand the visual language of the photograph. Attendees will receive a signed copy of one of Finlay's books "Testify," a collection of images from seventeen years of photojournalism, or "12°N x 23°E, 64°S x 60°E," photographs taken in Sudan and Antarctica. Please visit our website for more information about this workshop.
