POYi IRIS Nights Guest Lecturer Gerd Ludwig
An Evening with Gerd Ludwig

Thursday, October 1, 6:30-8:00pm

Last week saw our second Slide Show Night at the Space attract 200 enthusiastic attendees from the photographic community. This exhibit's Slide Show focused on photojournalists in conformity with the theme set by our current POYi exhibit.

We heard from a few of you that you had come thinking Colin Finlay was going to give his lecture last Thursday, but that event is coming this Thursday. Apologies for any confusion! Colin is also offering a workshop on the following Saturday...there are still a few slots open if you would like to register.

Today we are opening registration for upcoming lecturer Gerd Ludwig, who will be speaking at the Photography Space on Thursday, October 1. Please make sure to mark your calendars.

Gerd Ludwig studied photography with Otto Steinert in his native Germany. He co-founded VISUM, Germany's first photographer-owned photo agency, the following year. In 1975, he moved to Hamburg and began working for Geo, Stern, Spiegel, Zeit-Magazin, Time, and Life, as well as photographing advertising campaigns. In 1984 he relocated to New York and signed on as a contract photographer for National Geographic Magazine in the early 1990's. His focus on the socio-economic changes following the dissolution of the Soviet Bloc resulted in the publication of his ten-year retrospective book and exhibition, Broken Empire: After the Fall of the USSR. His ongoing coverage of post-Soviet Russia has garnered his distinction as being the world's foremost color photographer documenting the region.

Now based in Los Angeles, Gerd has photographed in over 70 countries across the globe. He continues to lecture at universities and photographic workshops throughout the world and, when not photographing for National Geographic Magazine, shoots advertising. In 2006 he received the IPA's Lucie Award for International Photographer of the Year.

To register for the lecture, please click here. We recommend that you make your reservations soon, as our lectures tend to fill up quickly. If you are unable to reserve seats through our ticketing system, don't be discouraged...10 minutes prior to the lecture we release any seats that have not been claimed by ticketholders to standby guests.
